First Response to Fire

Pre-requisites:    Nil.
Course Outline:    This course covers the requirements to ensure that an appropriate first response to fire incidents is performed.During this course, participants will gain an understanding of how to:

  • identify fire emergency and raise alarm;
  • initiate basic fire responses;
  • notify responsible authorities;
  • operate in accordance with fire fighting principles;
  • undertake safe evacuation; and
  • assess and control the risks associated with fire emergency.

The practical exercises will give participants experience and skills in:

  • identifying the different classes (Classes A to F) and elements of fire;
  • the correct selection and use of extinguishing agents;
  • the application of defensive fire fighting tactics and techniques;
  • personal safety;
  • the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE); and
  • reporting of fire extinguisher use.
Assessment:     Comprised of both written and practical assessment.  Attendees will complete a set of exercises to demonstrate their understanding of the theory and practical components of this competency.
Certification:     Upon successful completion of this course, each participant will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (RTO #40907).
