Course Overview

This unit is for workers in operational roles who are required to operate a forklift truck as part of their duties. It develops the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a forklift truck in accordance with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, including Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and Australian standards.

A forklift truck is defined as a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage, to which is attached a pair of fork arms that can be raised 900mm or more above the ground. A person performing this work is required to hold a forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). Participants will learn to plan and prepare for operations, perform safe load handling, and respond to emergency situations.

Who This Course is For

This course is suitable for workers across warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, construction and general industry who are required to operate a forklift truck. It is an essential certification for anyone seeking to obtain or formalise their High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) for forklift operations, whether entering the workforce or transitioning into a new role.

Course Information

Be at least 18 years of age
Completion of LLN assessment as part of the enrolment process
Valid government-issued photo ID required (100 points of identification)
Participants must wear enclosed shoes, long pants and appropriate PPE
A valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) is required prior to certification issue

Practical demonstration: safely operate a forklift truck across a range of tasks including load handling, stacking, travelling and emergency procedures
Knowledge assessment covering WHS legislation, manufacturer requirements, communication procedures and safe operating practices
Assessment is conducted by a state-accredited HRW Assessor using the National Assessment Instrument (NAI) — simulators are not permitted

On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck by Health Security Education (RTO 40907). A valid USI is required prior to certification issue. Participants will then be eligible to apply for their High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) through their relevant state authority within 60 days of assessment.

Course fees include training, assessment and (where applicable) issuance of certification for participants who successfully meet competency requirements.
Course fees may not include personal PPE, travel, onsite delivery travel costs, replacement certificates, or additional resources unless stated.

Funding and subsidies: Where applicable, funding or subsidies may be available for eligible participants.
Payment terms: Payment is required prior to course commencement unless otherwise arranged.
Refunds and withdrawals: Refunds are managed in accordance with Health Security Education’s Fees and Refunds Policy. Written notice is required to withdraw.

Trainer support is available throughout the course. Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) support and wellbeing support are available on request. Health Security Education provides a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
Participants must follow trainer instructions and use equipment safely. Reasonable adjustment is available where appropriate.
USI: A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required prior to the issuance of nationally recognised certification.
Policies and processes (including Complaints & Appeals) are available via the Student Handbook.

Credit Transfer: Available for equivalent completed units where a valid and current Statement of Attainment is provided.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): May be available for learners who can provide evidence of current competence.
Pathways: This unit may support entry into further training pathways in health, community services, emergency response, workplace safety, or related outcomes, depending on learner goals and packaging rules.
