Course Overview

This unit is designed for supervisors, managers, and those responsible for coordinating safe work involving silica-containing products. It focuses on planning and supervising compliant work practices, ensuring risk controls are in place, briefing workers on requirements, and overseeing monitoring, clean-up and continuous improvement processes for WHS.

The unit applies to workplaces where silica-containing products are used or processed and where the work may generate respirable crystalline silica (RCS). Licensing, legislative or regulatory requirements may apply depending on jurisdiction.

Delivery: Face-to-face (theory + practical) or workplace-based delivery for group bookings (where suitable)

Delivery Location: Training is delivered at Health Security Education’s approved facilities or at client workplaces by arrangement.

Course Details

Course Information

Minimum Age: Participants must be at least 18 years of age due to supervisory responsibility and typical site access requirements.
Prerequisites: No formal prerequisites.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy: All learners complete an LLN assessment. Support is available where required.
PPE / Equipment / IT Access: Access to appropriate PPE where required and a device with internet access if online learning is included.
Workplace or Site Access Requirements: Participants must be physically capable of completing practical activities relevant to the unit outcomes, with reasonable adjustments available where appropriate.
RTO: Training is delivered and certification is issued by Health Security Education (RTO #40907).

Assessment is competency-based and may include:

Knowledge assessment (written and/or verbal)

Practical/simulated supervision activities (planning controls, briefing workers, monitoring compliance)

Review and completion of WHS documentation relevant to silica risk controls

Scenario-based decision making and incident/escalation responses

On successful completion you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCSIL4001 – Supervise and manage work with products and materials generating respirable crystalline silica, issued by Health Security Education (RTO #40907).

A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is required before we can issue your Statement of Attainment.

Course fees include training, assessment and (where applicable) issuance of certification for participants who successfully meet competency requirements.
Course fees may not include personal PPE, travel, onsite delivery travel costs, replacement certificates, or additional resources unless stated.

Funding and subsidies: Where applicable, funding or subsidies may be available for eligible participants.
Payment terms: Payment is required prior to course commencement unless otherwise arranged.
Refunds and withdrawals: Refunds are managed in accordance with Health Security Education’s Fees and Refunds Policy. Written notice is required to withdraw.

Trainer support is available throughout the course. Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) support and wellbeing support are available on request. Health Security Education provides a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
Participants must follow trainer instructions and use equipment safely. Reasonable adjustment is available where appropriate.
USI: A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required prior to the issuance of nationally recognised certification.
Policies and processes (including Complaints & Appeals) are available via the Student Handbook.

Credit Transfer: Available for equivalent completed units where a valid and current Statement of Attainment is provided.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): May be available for learners who can provide evidence of current competence.
Pathways: This unit may support entry into further training pathways in health, community services, emergency response, workplace safety, or related outcomes, depending on learner goals and packaging rules.
