Become a qualified Fire Safety Advisor in Queensland. This course covers everything you need to develop, implement, and monitor fire safety management plans and emergency procedures in compliance with the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008.

Course Overview

A Fire Safety Advisor is a qualified professional responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring fire safety management plans and emergency procedures to comply with the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008. They are mandatory for specific high-occupancy, high-rise, or high-risk buildings, and are required to have training in workplace emergency response and 3-yearly re-certification.

This course gives you all the skills and knowledge needed to take on the FSA role in your organisation or building. You will work through eight units of competency covering emergency planning, fire safety systems, evacuation procedures, and ongoing compliance responsibilities.

This course is suited to building managers, facility managers, WHS officers, and anyone appointed or seeking appointment as a Fire Safety Advisor under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 in Queensland. It is particularly relevant for people working in high-occupancy, high-rise, or high-risk buildings where an FSA is legally required.

Re-certification: Fire Safety Advisors in Queensland are required to complete re-certification every 3 years to maintain their accreditation under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008. Contact Health Security Education to find out about re-certification options.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Age: 18 years old
Prerequisites: No formal prerequisites. Participants should have a general understanding of their building or facility environment. Workplace or organisational authorisation to fulfil the FSA role may be required by your employer.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy: All learners complete an LLN assessment. Support is available where needed.
PPE and Equipment: Appropriate PPE may be required for practical components. A device with internet access is needed if online learning is included.
Workplace or Site Access: Participants must be physically able to complete practical activities relevant to the unit outcomes. Reasonable adjustments are available where appropriate.

Assessment

Statement of Attainment issued by Health Security Education (RTO #40907) for PUAFIR506 – Conduct complex prescribed burns. USI required prior to certification issue.

Outcome

Statement of Attainment issued by Health Security Education (RTO #40907) for PUAFIR406 – Develop simple prescribed burn plans. USI required prior to certification issue.

Fees inclusions/exclusions + refunds summary

Course fees include training, assessment and (where applicable) issuance of certification for participants who successfully meet competency requirements.
Course fees may not include personal PPE, travel, onsite delivery travel costs, replacement certificates, or additional resources unless stated.

Funding and subsidies: Where applicable, funding or subsidies may be available for eligible participants.
Payment terms: Payment is required prior to course commencement unless otherwise arranged.
Refunds and withdrawals: Refunds are managed in accordance with Health Security Education’s Fees and Refunds Policy. Written notice is required to withdraw.

Student Support & Requirements

Trainer support is available throughout the course. Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) support and wellbeing support are available on request. Health Security Education provides a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
Participants must follow trainer instructions and use equipment safely. Reasonable adjustment is available where appropriate.
USI: A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required prior to the issuance of nationally recognised certification.
Policies and processes (including Complaints & Appeals) are available via the Student Handbook.

Credit Transfer: Available for equivalent completed units where a valid and current Statement of Attainment is provided.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): May be available for learners who can provide evidence of current competence.
Pathways: This unit may support entry into further training pathways in health, community services, emergency response, workplace safety, or related outcomes, depending on learner goals and packaging rules.
