Confined Space Course

MSMWHS217 – Gas test atmospheres
MSMPER200 – Work in accordance with an issued permit
Course duration:    One (1) day course
Course cost:    $350.00  (GST exempt)
Pre-requisites:    Nil.
Course Outline:    In many working environments people are exposed to a variety of hazardous substances.  These kinds of hazardous substances can have both short term and long term health effects from the smallest exposure, and even cause death. During this course, participants will get an understanding of how to:

  • plan and prepare to safely enter and work in a confined space, including applying for permits to enter confined spaces;
  • prepare for gas testing;
  • test for gases and identify safe atmospheres;
  • enter and work safely in a confined space to the issued permit conditions;
  • safely exit a confined space and close out permits;
  • maintain equipment; and
  • clean up and finalise work environment.

The practical exercises will give participants experience and skills in:

  • undertaking risk analysis;
  • applying for permits;
  • using appropriate safety equipment and PPE, including atmospheric monitoring equipment; and
  • entering, working in and exiting a confined space safely.
Assessment:     Comprised of both written and practical assessment.  Attendees will complete a set of exercises to demonstrate their understanding of the theory and practical components of this competency.
Certification:     Upon successful completion of this course, each participant will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (RTO #40907).
