Pre-requisites:    Participants must meet the following pre-requisites prior to attending this course:
  • All persons must hold and carry while driving a valid state/federal licence.
  • All persons operating manual transmission cars must hold a manual drivers licence.
  • Drive within the legal requirements for drug and alcohol.
Course Outline:    During this course, participants will get an understanding of how to:
  • identify the hazards and risks of off-road travel; and
  • safely travel in remote areas .
  • Conduct a vehicle recovery
  • Identify and maintain components of the 4WD
  • Change tyres in a safe and efficient manner
  • Conduct recovery of Vehicles (Winch, Snatch Strap, Recovery rope)

The practical exercises will give participants experience and skills in:

  • safely operating a four wheel drive vehicle;
  • identifying problems/faults in vehicles including instruments, electrical and mechanical malfunctions;
  • Identifying hazards and solutions around 4wd Operations;
  • conduct safe 4wd Recovery using a variety of recovery methods; and
  • dealing with problems/faults/vehicles in a safe manner.

Operate Vehicles in the Field will provide all competent persons with the skills and knowledge to:

  • prepare vehicle and secure load;
  • safely undertake journeys;
  • operate vehicles;
  • finalise journeys; and
  • maintain vehicle safety.
Assessment:     Comprised of both written and practical assessment.  Attendees will complete a set of exercises to demonstrate their understanding of the theory and practical components of this competency.
Certification:     Upon successful completion of this course, each participant will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (RTO #40907).

4WD Heavy Vehicle Training

Unit of competency:   

TLIC2049 – Operate heavy vehicle on unsealed road

Course duration:    One (1) day course
Course cost:    $550.00
Pre-requisites:    Participants must meet the following pre-requisites prior to attending this course:
  • All persons must hold and carry while driving a valid state/federal licence for the Classification of truck used in assessment.
  • All persons operating manual transmission cars must hold a manual drivers licence.
  • Drive within the legal requirements for drug and alcohol.
  • Hold a current 4WD certification
Course Outline:    During this course, participants will get an understanding of how to:
  • identify the hazards and risks of off-road travel; and
  • safely travel in remote areas .
